Haruki Marukami

Haruki Marukami reflects a quarter century of running, marathon-training, writing, and life along the way.
Review:
This is a book that, upon hitting the halfway point, I knew I would immediately read again. i couldn’t devour this quickly enough, yet I know when I go bak, I glean even more rich lessons.
While Marukami is talking about running, he’s clearly talking about so much more. He’s talking about writing. And endurance. And pain and disappointment, And resiliency. His reflections on life through running were the perfect thing to listen to during my own marathon training.
My Rating:
4.5 Stars
Beverage Pairing
I recommend plenty of water while marathon training. Once reaching the finish line, Harukami enjoys an ice cold Sam Adams to celebrate.
Fun Fact
If the title reminds you of Raymond Carver’s “What I Talk About When I Talk About Love,” kudos! The author confirms he styled the title similarly, with the permission of Carver’s family. (Bonus Fun Fact: Given how much Murakami and I both adore Raymond Carver’s writing, no wonder I love this book).
